Julian Eldred – Mr Menace

2019 Over 14 Winner

Meg Hunter – Singer / Songwriter

2019 14 and Under Winner

How does the competition work?

The first part of the competition is carried out via a heats process. This year we are running two heats. One on Saturday 16th May and one on Sunday 17th May.

At the heats there will be three judges who will grade you based on a number of factors, talent, entertainment value, costumes etc etc. It pays to put some work into stagecraft and to what you wear as you will be scored on these aspects. It is also advisable to have more than one performance of your act prepared incase you get to the semi finals and the finals.

After the heats the scores will be added up and the top scorers will be contacted to come back to the semi finals. The semi finals will take place at Makoura College in Masterton on 31st May and Kuranui College in Greytown on 6th June, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis to the semi finalists.

Each semi final will see an allocation of acts go through to the final which is at the Carterton Events Centre on 13th June 2020.

What sort of acts are you looking for?

We are looking for anything you might see in a variety show, it could be anything entertaining really. We’d love to see much more than just singers and dancers. Perhaps you are a ventriloquist, a comedian, perhaps you have a performing dog or you can juggle, perhaps you can play the spoons or do amazing gymnastics. We’d pretty much like to see anything you deem to be entertaining. We’d love to see groups, bands, skits, bring along your whānau and do your party tricks. We’re pretty much up for anything as long as it’s not R18 or inappropriate.

What are the competition categories?

It’s pretty simple really and age related. We have a 14 and under category and an over 14 category. If you have anyone over 14 in your act then you have to enter that category. Otherwise its pretty self explanatory.

So, how do I enter?

You fill in the form using the link below and pay your $5 entry fee. All profits go to a youth projects nominated by the Carterton Rotary Club, this is a not for profit event.
